Why Naked Greens is No Longer Available

Quick summary: Following a recent ruling by Food Standards Australia New Zealand (FSANZ), products containing Moringa oleifera as a food ingredient can no longer be sold for retail in Australia. Naked Greens Whole Multivitamin contained Moringa, so we've discontinued it. Australian Greens is the closest like-for-like replacement in our range - same wholefood philosophy, 100% Australian-grown, no fillers.

What changed

On 12 November 2025, Food Standards Australia New Zealand (FSANZ) rejected an application to permit Moringa oleifera as a novel food. The ruling means Moringa leaves, immature seed pods and seed oil can no longer be sold as a food or food ingredient in Australia, and any imports are now stopped at the border.

FSANZ's reasoning was that the available safety data was insufficient to complete their novel food assessment. Whilst we don't agree with the decision - Moringa has been a staple food in countries like India, Indonesia and the Philippines for hundreds of years, and the global evidence base on the leaf in particular is substantial - the ruling stands, and we'll always operate within the law.

Why this affected Naked Greens

Naked Greens Whole Multivitamin Powder and Capsules included Moringa as one of its core ingredients. We considered reformulating without it, but the result wouldn't have been the same product. Rather than dilute the blend or pad it out with fillers to compensate, we've made the call to discontinue it cleanly.

If you've been buying Naked Greens specifically for the Moringa, our standalone Organic Moringa Capsules remain available. They're a TGA-listed complementary medicine (AUST L), regulated by the TGA rather than FSANZ - the recent ruling doesn't apply to them.

What to take instead: Australian Greens

For most former Naked Greens customers, Australian Greens will be the closest like-for-like replacement we offer:

  • 100% Australian-grown - every ingredient grown, dried and packaged here
  • 7 certified organic wholefoods - wheatgrass, barley grass, alfalfa, brussel sprouts, broccoli, kale and green apple
  • No fillers, extracts, flavours or added sugar - same wholefood philosophy as Naked Greens
  • Available in capsules or powder - pick whichever format suits your routine

Frequently asked questions

Is Naked Greens coming back?

Not in its current form. We're not interested in reformulating the product without one of its core ingredients, and the regulatory situation around Moringa as a food is unlikely to shift quickly. If circumstances change, we'll revisit it.

Why is Moringa banned as a food but allowed as a complementary medicine?

Australia regulates foods (via FSANZ) and complementary medicines (via the TGA) under separate frameworks with different evidence requirements. The TGA has its own pathway for listing herbal and complementary medicines, which our Moringa Capsules meet. The FSANZ novel food framework is what's blocked Moringa as a food ingredient.

A note on our standards

We've always preferred whole foods over extracts, and Australian-grown over imported. Australian Greens is the cleanest expression of that philosophy in our range - we think most former Naked Greens customers will find it a step up rather than a sideways move.
